Bradley Prize recipient Hernando de Soto addresses Beloit College's Upton Forum

In late October, Bradley Prize recipient and world-renowned economist Hernando de Soto delivered the keynote address to the second annual Miller Upton Forum at Beloit College in Beloit, Wis.  This year's Upton Forum was on "The Wealth and Well-Being of Nations."

De Soto founded the Institute for Liberty and Democracy in Lima, Peru.  He played a major role in designing reforms that modernized Peru's economic system works with indigenous think tanks in two dozen underdeveloped countries to push similar reforms.

In addition to highlighting de Soto's work as the Upton Scholar, the Forum also featured panel discussions on "The Development Potential with the Developing World," "Microfinance and Macrofinance in a World Connected," and "Fostering Wealth and Well-Being Through Ideas, Institutions, and Enterprise."

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee supports the Upton Forum.  The Forum is named for R. Miller Upton.  An economist, Upton was the sixth president of Beloit College, serving from 1954 to 1975.

Though public Forum events last for less than one week, Beloit College students are immersed in the theories and work of the Upton Scholar well before the slated campus visit.
