In May, The Phillips Foundation in Washington, D.C., hosted a dinner for the nine winners of its 18th annual Robert Novak Journalism Fellowship Awards

The winners of two $50,000 full-time fellowships are Meg McDonnell, 26, and Jilliam Melchior, 24.  McDonnell is a blogger at CatholicMatch.com and a religion teacher at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill.  She will write on marriage and young adults.  Melchior is a freelance journalist in New York City.  She will write on China.

Awards were also given for five $25,000 part-time fellowships and two $7,500 alumni-fund fellowships.  Among other things, these fellows will write on:  why we should stop worrying about the "gap" between rich and poor and start celebrating wealth creation; fixing the mortgage market in the United States; and the appeasement of evil by America's colleges.
The 2011 Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Bradley Prize recipient Charles Krauthammer for distinguished media career.

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee supports the Journalism Fellowship Awards.
