Since 1995, The Wall Street Journal and The Heritage Foundation in Washington, D.C., have tracked the march of economic freedom around the world with the influential Index of Economic Freedom
The Index has brought Adam Smith's theories about liberty, prosperity, and economic freedom to life by creating 10 benchmarks that gauge the economic success of countries around the world.  The Index covers 10 freedoms -- from property rights to entrepreneurship -- in 183 countries.

In 2011, Hong Kong was ranked No. 1 in economic freedom, followed by Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Canada, Ireland, Denmark, the United States, and Bahrain.

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee supports The Heritage Foundation.
