Bradley Prize recipient Gary Sinise and the Gary Sinise Foundation recently hosted an Invincible Spirit Festival at the Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.  The Festival honored the sacrifices of the nation's wounded service members, as well as their families and caregivers, by providing a break from the challenges of medical treatment so they could enjoy a day of relaxation, music, food, and friendship.

The day’s events included a cookout prepared by Food Network celebrity chef Robert Irvine, games and amusements for the children, wounded warrior wheelchair basketball, hot dog eating contests, a petting zoo, and a performance by Sinise's musical group, the Lt. Dan Band.

The Gary Sinise Foundation organizes similar festivals at hospitals around the country, including the Naval Medical Center San Diego, the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the Fort Belvoir Community Hospital.  According to the Foundation, "The Invincible Spirit Festivals were created as a way to say 'thank you' to the brave men and women who protect freedom, those who care for them, and the friends and families who love them."

In addition to its festivals, the Gary Sinise Foundation offers a variety of programs to celebrate and support America's defenders, veterans, first responders,
their families, and those in need.  For example, the R.I.S.E (Restoring Independence Supporting Empowerment) program provides specially adapted smart homes, home modifications, mobility devices, and adapted vehicles to America's most severely wounded heroes and their families.  The Soaring Valor program brings WWII veterans and their guardians to the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, while the Arts and Entertainment Outreach program allows those who have served the country to attend dinner and a special performance at either the Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago or the Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles. Finally, the Relief & Resiliency Outreach program provides complete support to the nation's defenders who are recovering from trauma, injury, or loss in times of urgent need.

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation substantially supports the Gary Sinise Foundation.
