ON-Lion Letter
South Carolina Gov. Nikki R. Haley was recently honored with the Foundation for Government Accountability's (FGA's) 2016 Champion of Opportunity Award for her leadership to prevent fraud and protect the state's welfare programs for the truly needy.

By signing welfare reform into law, Haley empowered her state to seek out fraudulent applications for welfare benefits in programs like Medicaid, helping to ensure those services will be around long-term for those who need them.  Leaders like Haley have saved taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars, by giving state agencies the tools they need to fight welfare waste and to ensure enrollees are using their benefits properly.

"Our public safety programs that protect the truly needy are constantly subjected to fraud and abuse from sophisticated scams to improper use of benefits, and every abuse, no matter how small, threatens the integrity of these critical programs,” said FGA chief executive officer Tarren Bragdon.

"That's why we are so thankful for leaders like Governor Haley, who are standing up to those who abuse our public resources to protect those who need our help the most."

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee substantially supports FGA.
