ON-Lion Letter

One of the most-important duties of any school's board of directors is fiduciary oversight, ensuring that the school has a viable business model that allows it to successfully carry out its mission.

In October, the Partners Advancing Values in Education (PAVE) organization in Milwaukee hosted a half-day session to provide board members of the city's voucher and charter schools a helpful overview of best practices in reading and understanding nonprofit financial statements.  It also went over key financial questions board members can ask to assist them in fulfilling their overall fiduciary responsibility to the school they are serving.

The day featured separate breakout sessions for members of voucher- and charter-school boards, so each group could have the opportunity to ask questions and review information specific to its type of school.

Milwaukee's Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation substantially supports PAVE.
