Thirty years following President Ronald Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) speech, the United States still does not have a comprehensive ballistic missile defense system.  While the geopolitical landscape has changed in the interim, the threat from ballistic missiles has continued to grow.  Now more than ever, the U.S. needs a comprehensive ballistic missile defense system.

In March, The Heritage Foundation and the George C. Marshall Institute co-hosted a commemoration of the SDI speech's 30th anniversary.  Distinguished guests discussed the importance of SDI then, its relevance for today's missile defense programs, and the importance of missile defenses for U.S. national security in the light of today’s diverse challenges.

The event featured two panels and addresses by U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers of Alabama.  Rogers chairs the House Armed Services Committee's Strategic Forces Subcommittee.

The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee supports both The Heritage Foundation and the George C. Marshall Institute.
