Religious freedom is one of the most-precious freedoms we enjoy in the United States.  But nearly 70% of the world's 6.8 billion people live in countries with restrictions on religious expression.  Even some of our freedoms are being eroded in America.

Are our federal legislators making religious freedom a priority?

Now there is a way to keep tabs on their voting records on religious-freedom legislation.  With support from The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee, Open Doors USA recently published a Congressional Scorecard for International Religious Freedom to evaluate each U.S. Senator's and Representative's record on religious-freedom issues.

Legislators are graded on their votes and co-sponsorship of a selection of the most-important religious-freedom bills and resolutions that seek to protect Christians and other persecuted faith groups worldwide.

"Open Doors USA's scorecard has helped to increase the number of Congressional offices who are making international religious freedom a higher priority," according to Open Doors USA director of advocacy Lindsay Vessey.  "We do this by regularly communicating with nearly all Congressional offices, alerting them to opportunities to engage on international religious freedom issues, as well as informing them of which items will be included in the scorecard."
